Invisible Power Relations and Symbolic Violence Against Women in the Police Force of the Brazilian Amazon

This paper critically examines the informal forms of power that permeate the structure of the Civil Police in the Brazilian Amazon, taking as an analytical objective the experiences of female police officers delegated in Brazil, with special attention to the Amazon region. Through an autoethnographic and narrative approach, by one of the authors who act as delegates, the study problematizes episodes that demonstrate the existence of a non-formalized hierarchy, sustained by personal ties, subjective perceptions and unofficial institutional practices of influence, capable of straining or even limiting the exercise of the authority legally attributed to the position. Without adopting a perspective that discredits the Civil Police, this article seeks to contribute to greater ethical, democratic and institutional improvement
